Earlobe repair and pinnaplasty in Cheshire

Earlobe repair is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia. During the surgery, incisions are carefully made along either side of the tear or the dilatation, utilising z-plasty and triangle shapes to re-orientate the scar and tissue. Excess skin is repositioned, and the incisions are meticulously closed to promote optimal healing.

Pinnaplasty, or ear pinning, for ears that stick out due to conchal bowl excess is also performed under local anaesthetic. Sometimes this needs to be combined with other techniques to create an antihelical fold or remove large lobules or mid pinna excess.

Recovery and Aftercare

After your surgery our dedicated team will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions to ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery. You may experience some swelling and bruising, but these effects are temporary and can be managed with proper care. Most patients can resume their regular activities within a week or two, although individual recovery times may vary. We will schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your progress, address any concerns, and provide ongoing support throughout your healing journey.

Complications

While earlobe repair and pinnaplasty are both generally safe procedure, it is important to be aware of potential complicationss that can arise. During your personalised consultation, I will discuss these risks with you in detail and address any concerns you may have. Here are some of the potential complications associated:

  1. Infection: Though rare, there is a small risk of developing an infection after surgery. Our practice adheres to stringent sterilization protocols to minimize this risk. In the event that an infection occurs, appropriate treatment will be provided to ensure proper healing.
  2. Bleeding: Excessive bleeding during or after the surgery is uncommon. However, our surgeons take precautions to minimise the risk of bleeding by carefully cauterizing blood vessels and providing you with specific pre- and post-operative instructions to follow.
  3. Scarring: Every surgical procedure involves some degree of scarring. While scars typically fade over time, individual healing and scar formation can vary.
  4. Asymmetry or Unsatisfactory Results: While  experienced surgeons strive for symmetry and satisfactory outcomes, it is possible to experience slight asymmetry or unsatisfactory results. They will discuss realistic expectations with you and work closely to achieve the best possible outcome.

It is important to remember that complications are rare, and the majority of patients experience successful outcomes. Our practice prioritizes patient safety, employing advanced techniques and adhering to strict protocols to minimize risks and ensure optimal results.

During your consultation, our surgeons will provide detailed information about the specific risks and complications that may apply to your unique circumstances. They will answer any questions you may have, address your concerns, and guide you through the decision-making process.
